having a crush on Spike, Dawn sheds light on the identity of the true

object of the neutered vamp's affection---Buffy. With his frustrating

Slayer fixation finally out of the closet, Spike swallows his pride and

Death gets remarkably personal in this haunting, well-scripted episode,

which was written and directed by series creator Joss Whedon. After

months of fighting and ostensibly overcoming a brain tumor, Joyce

dies unexpectedly and in a manner seldom seen on Buffy---peacefully

and quietly. Reeling from the shock of discovering her mother's lifeless

body on the living-room sofa, Buffy manages to pull herself together

enough to deliver the news to an already emotionally fragile

cope with their loss in entirely different ways---while the Slayer

retracts into numbness, Dawn acts on her fears. Buffy finds comfort

by confiding in a visiting Angel, but her sister's inability to accept their

mother's death isn't as easily alleviated. Denial leads Dawn to a

supernatural remedy for grief---a magical recipe for resurrection.

Willow and Tara refuse to assist with the dangerous spell, but Spike

has no such qualms about helping to bring Joyce back. More

100 5/22/01 May 18, 2001 The Gift

In the fantastical cult favorite's fifth-season finale and 100th episode,

Buffy and her brave band of Scoobies make one last play for

Glory---who holds Dawn's life (not to mention the fate of the world)

in her hands.

Glory trumped the good guys when she stole the Slayer's little sis out

from under her nose. In a race against time, Buffy and pals must now

execute a risky plan to rescue Dawn before her blood is

spilled---which would open a portal to Glory's demonic dimension,

creating a literal hell on Earth.

The milestone also marks the last original episode to air on the WB,

since the series is moving to UPN this fall.

Buffy battles the ghosts of Sunnydale High's past in a lively

students, which includes awkward freshman Dawn. It also has a

visitor, Buffy, who can't resist a chance to tour the facility. But her

curiosity soon turns to dread when spirits from the old school

Willow.

Help

Episode #126; Original air date October 15, 2002

We see Buffy, the counselor, meeting with several Sunnydale High students. One girl, Cassie, tells Buffy that she is going to die on Friday. Concerned Buffy, along with Dawn, Xander, and Willow, begin to search for potential threats. They discover many possible suspects including Cassie's friend Mike, whom she recently turned down for the winter formal, and her father, who has a history of violence. Knowing Buffy is trying to help Cassie thanks her, but again emphasizes that though she doesn't want to die, she just knows she will and there's nothing anyone can do to help her. Though Buffy saves Cassie's life twice, once from a group of high school boys who attempt to use her as a sacrifice to raise a demon and secondly from nearly being shot through the eyes by an arrow, Cassie still ends up dying from a undetected heart problem. We end with the gang comtemplating the fact that no matter how hard they try they can't save everyone.
